Rafael Nadal Considering Ending Season Early Due to Injuries

Rafael Nadal may end the season early for injuries

Rafael Nadal announced on Monday that he might have to cut short his current season due to health issues. The World No. 2 tennis player revealed that he is struggling with a knee injury sustained during the US Open Semifinals match. This setback has led him to withdraw from the ATP World Tour Finals that began in London on Sunday.

In an official statement posted on his Twitter account, Nadal shared his decision to conclude his season prematurely. He expressed that despite having a successful year and being at the top of his game, injuries have forced him to bring his season to an end. As a result, John Isner will step in to replace Nadal at the ATP Finals.

During the Paris Masters draw last week, the 32-year-old Nadal withdrew just before his scheduled match due to an abdominal injury. Additionally, he underwent surgery on his right ankle on the following Monday. It is worth noting that Nadal had recently reclaimed the World No. 1 ranking from Novak Djokovic and closed out the 2018 season with five titles. Among his achievements is a historic 11th French Open victory, boasting a remarkable 45-4 win-loss record. He secured his 17th Grand Slam title at the French Open in June. In January, Nadal faced a hip injury that forced him to pull out of the Australian Open Quarterfinals against Marin Cilic.
