Roger Federer defeated Fabio Fognini with 6-4, 6-3 in Thursday’s game and reached the quarterfinals of Paris Masters. This makes Federer continue to retaining the 100th career title. If Federer can win the upcoming quarterfinals which he’ll play against Kei Nishikori, he may next face Novak Djokovic for semifinals. However, Federer has other plans altogether. He plans on winning the ATP Finals that are shortly going to begin starting November 11.
The 37-year-old tennis star is returning to playing the tournament first time since the year 2015. He was not tested as it is the 4th time that he defeated Fogini in 4 matches. Federer was all fresh and active just after Milos Raonic withdrew from playing due to an injury just before the Wednesday’s second-round match.
Federer, 37 and returning to the tournament for the first time since 2015, was hardly tested as he beat Fognini for the fourth time in four matches. He was fresh after Milos Raonic pulled out injured before their second-round match on Wednesday. Federer was up by 4-1 just due to a double break. Fogini had the change to pressurize Federer in the tenth game, the time when Federer was down by 15-40 on the serve.
However, Federer, who had already faced hard situations in the previous week but still managed to win the Swiss Indoors for the 9th time, was able to save and thus held on nicely in the first set. In the second set’s 8th game, Federer responded pretty well and saved 2 break points on his way and stayed on the lead 5-3. Fogini, on the other hand, cracked up in the following game, with double faults in the match point. Federer’s outstanding play and victory in the match made him earn a standing ovation from the spectators.
