The NFL safety, Eric Reid who is one of the key figures in the ongoing protest of NFL against the brutality of the police, knelt alongside Colin Kaepernick back in 2016 during the national anthem which takes place before the has reportedly resumed his role in protesting, once again. The NFL career of Eric Reid returned this Sunday, and he made a knee when the national anthem started playing.

The safety had recently signed up to the Carolina Panthers had kneeled in his first game after a long break, this move made him the first of the Panthers player to take an active part in the protest. The protest has been a huge topic, and it drew a lot of controversies around the league for several years.

Back in 2016, Reid joined Kaepernick, the former quarterback in his protest against police brutality. During the national anthems both the players had reportedly knelt during the anthem and this move played a negative influence and cost Reid’s playing time. When Reid’s contract ended in the 2017 season, no other team brought Reid onboard during the offseason.  Reid felt that the skills he possessed and his age wasn’t lined up with the lack of an offer, and this led him to file a collusion grievance case against the NFL in spring.

Ever since Reid knelt for the first time, he was incredibly vocal about the fact where he thinks that his protesting has reportedly hurt is value on the market as a free agent.

Reid Tweeted “The notion that I can be a great signing for your team for cheap, not because of my skill set but because I’ve protested systemic oppression, is ludicrous,” he also thinks that this mindset is the part of a bigger problem in NFL.

On 27th September Reid signed up with the Panthers, but he has declined to end his case against the NFL.
