Philadelphia 76ers promote Elton Brand for the vacant general manager role

After getting the biggest internal promotion in the front office this summer, Elton Brand has ranked higher once again. As per the information by a team source to PhillyVoice, Brand has been hired as the general manager of the team Philadelphia 76ers. The news will be officially announced in a media conference held in Camden later in this week. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the news of this latest Sixers hiring.

As explained by the team representatives to PhillyVoice last month, the role of Brand with the team this season was going to be pretty different than what it is now. The change for Brand came in when he transitioned his focus from the G-League affiliate of the team to a more broadly distributed role.

Before this latest promotion, it was expected that Brand would dedicate his time to the big league club and become a part of the ultimate decision-making process of the parent club, a source informed PhillyVoice last month. The 76ers, as they did when he was called back to play in the dog days of ‘The Process,’ were expecting him to be in some capacity of a big brother to the team’s players. But this new promotion in late August gained him an entry in the front-office decisions for the Sixers.

The things have now taken a sharper turn for Brand. This is somewhat a meteoric rise as recently in December 2016; Brand was being hired as a player development consultant, having announced his retirement in October 2016 as a player. The brand was later promoted to the position of a general manager of the g-league affiliate of the Delaware Bluecoats in August 2017, and since then he has received two rounds of promotion this summer. In just within two years, Brand has moved from retiring as a player to leading the club where he played for.
