Jared McCain, a rookie for the Philadelphia 76ers, caused concern on Wednesday night after a serious fall required him to be hospitalized. McCain, selected 16th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, collapsed with just four minutes remaining in the Sixers’ preseason victory over the Brooklyn Nets, which ended 117-95.
While attempting to grab a rebound following his own missed shot, McCain found himself in a precarious position midair. His weight shifted too far backward, resulting in a hard fall onto his back, prompting him to clutch his chest and appear to struggle with his breathing.
Immediately after the incident, it was evident that something was amiss. Following the game, Sixers coach Nick Nurse confirmed that McCain was experiencing breathing difficulties and had been taken to the hospital.
“It was rough,” Nurse remarked. “I’ve never seen a fall quite like that before, so we’re hoping he’ll be alright.”

When a player struggles to breathe after a fall of this nature, it raises significant concern. Fortunately, initial reports suggest that McCain’s hospitalization may be precautionary, and his situation does not appear to be life-threatening. Nevertheless, witnessing a young player, particularly one still acclimating to the NBA, suffer such a fall is distressing.
For McCain, the focus now shifts to waiting for news as the Sixers and their supporters hope for a favorable outcome. Since being drafted, he has shown potential, and this type of incident could be a frustrating hurdle for the new player.
At this stage, McCain’s health and well-being remain the priority as updates from the hospital are awaited.
