The French officials have now decided to ban the catsuit, announcing a stricter dress code for the upcoming 2019 French Open. French Tennis Federation president Bernard Giudicellli acknowledged a need to scale back, suggesting that they had crossed a line.
During the 2018 French Open, Williams had to pull out of the tournament due to an injury in the fourth round. Giudicelli pointed to Serena’s catsuit as a reference for the change in policy, stating that such attire will no longer be accepted, emphasizing the importance of respecting the game and the venue.
Serena expressed that wearing the suit made her feel like a superhero, representing women who have endured challenging conditions and emerging with confidence in their own bodies.
