Florida bar cancels NFL ticket package in protest of anthem protests

Florida restaurant cancels NFL ticket package to protest the anthem protests

Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding NFL players choosing to kneel during the national anthem, a Florida bar is making a statement. Janet and Curtis West, owners of Beef O’Brady’s in Brooksville, Florida have decided to cancel their pricey DIRECTV NFL Sunday Ticket package as a form of protest against the league and its players.

Signs displayed at the bar express that Beef O’Brady’s will not financially support the NFL this year due to what they perceive as a lack of appreciation and empathy for American service members.

The signs also state, “Our National Anthem is a way Americans have always shown respect for all military service members. Unfortunately, the NFL does not share this sentiment. So, this season, we will not be purchasing the NFL ticket. Maybe hitting their wallets will make a difference.”

By saving $5,200 from not purchasing the NFL Sunday Ticket package, the owners plan to offer 40% food discounts to veterans on game days. Curtis West believes kneeling during the national anthem disrespects veterans.

The debate surrounding the anthem protests is likely to continue as the NFL Players Association and the league work to resolve their differences. This issue is expected to remain in the spotlight leading up to the start of the season.
