Two key figures who played pivotal roles in securing the Philadelphia Eagles’ first Super Bowl Championship will continue working together in the foreseeable future.The Eagles made the announcement that head coach Doug Pederson and executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman have both signed contract extensions that will keep them with the team through the 2022 season.
Jeffrey Lurie, the Eagles owner, expressed his confidence in the duo by stating, “Doug and Howie are dedicated to our team’s success, ensuring our competitiveness in both the short and long term. Their shared vision for the future of our franchise positions us well to achieve continued success.”
Pederson joined the organization in 2016 with little fanfare, but quickly made an impact by leading the team to a 13-3 regular season record and eventually a Super Bowl victory following a 7-9 start in his rookie season. Known for his bold coaching style, Pederson’s daring decisions, such as the ‘Philly Special’ play in Super Bowl LII, have greatly contributed to the team’s success, including going for it on fourth down 26 times during the regular season.
Roseman’s accolades include being named Executive of the Year in 2017 by the Pro Football Writers of America and the Sporting News NFL Executive of the year in 2017. He played a critical role in securing quarterback Carson Wentz with the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft and assembling a talented supporting cast around Wentz that is among the best in the league.
Lurie commended their shared aggressive and risk-taking approach as well as their collaborative and harmonious working relationship, emphasizing that their alignment and lack of ego will continue to be key factors in the team’s success going forward.
