The New England Patriots are still on the lookout for talented wide receivers as their training camp progresses.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Patriots held a workout session with wide receiver Cobi Hamilton on Friday. Hamilton has had stints with multiple NFL teams since being drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2013. During his time with the Razorbacks, he had an impressive season with 90 receptions, 1335 yards, and five touchdowns.
After his time with the Bengals, Hamilton played for the Dolphins, Eagles, Steelers, Panthers, Cardinals, and Texans during his NFL career.
Fans in New England may recall Hamilton from his tenure with the Steelers in 2016. That season, the 27-year-old started in 8 of 11 regular-season games for Pittsburgh, recording 17 receptions for 234 yards and two touchdowns. He also faced off against the Patriots in the AFC Championship game, where he caught 2 passes for 37 yards and a touchdown.
Despite Hamilton’s efforts, the Steelers fell short as the Patriots secured a 36-17 victory, ultimately winning Super Bowl LI against the Atlanta Falcons.
With a spot open on their 90-man roster due to the release of guard Nate Theaker, the Patriots could potentially offer Hamilton a place on the team. However, reports indicate that wide receiver Eric Decker has signed a one-year deal with the team, a move yet to be officially confirmed.
