Denver Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr. has Second Back Surgery

Denver Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr. underwent second back surgery the previous week

Michael Porter Jr., who was selected by the Denver Nuggets as the 14th pick in the NBA draft but faced challenges due to persistent back issues, recently underwent his second back surgery, as reported by NBA.com. According to Porter’s team, this latest surgery has provided a clearer understanding of his herniated disks condition, boosting his confidence and allowing him to transition into his Nuggets career after dealing with the injury. As of now, there are no plans for Porter to sit out the 2018-19 season.

A team spokesperson refrained from commenting on the situation on Wednesday but suggested that an update on Porter’s health would be provided by the team’s medical staff soon.

The 19-year-old Porter had initially undergone back surgery in November, resulting in him playing only three games during his one season at the University of Missouri. Prior to the surgery, Porter was considered a top contender for the no. 1 overall draft pick. Before the draft, the 6-foot-10 player also skipped a workout citing a hip issue, leading to extended uncertainties on draft night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn before eventually being drafted as the final lottery pick that night.

While evaluating the risks and rewards, the Nuggets contemplated the scenario of Porter not playing in the current season and using his rookie year to focus on recovery and strengthening his back. Speculations arose considering his potential when healthy.

Porter signed a multiyear deal with the Nuggets in early July as an NBA rookie, with a $2.4 million salary cap specified for this season.
