Minnesota representative Keith Ellison boycotts the NFL over new national anthem policy

Even after NFL taking five days to solve the national anthem problem, it looks like it has found a way to make the situation even worse. Already, the anthem debate by two members of Congress, belonging to the opposite sides, has already chastised the league for its new policy. Peter King, the New York representative on Saturday, complained about the Jets CEO Christopher Johnson’s decision to foot the bill for any sort of fines imposed on the league players who protest against the new policy where the players who do not wish to stand for the national anthem should stay in the locker room.

And now, Keith Ellison, Minnesota representative has said that he will boycott the NFL games for ignoring the players’ right to kneel down and protest. Ellison tweeted on Sunday, “Friends who know me, know that I love football. But I won’t be watching this NFL season because of the unfair cowardly and idiotic kneeling ban.”

In the previous week, the league approved the new policy where the players were needed to stand on the field during the national anthem. The players will be permitted to stay in the locker room during the anthem, but any players who protested during the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ will have to face a fine.

The US President Donald Trump had started attacking the NFL players who had kneeled during the national anthem in the year 2017, saying that the owners of the NFL should remove the players who are protesting. He later thrashed the players again when he appeared for an interview on ‘Fox & Friends” in the last week.

“I think that’s good. I don’t think people should be staying in the locker rooms, but still, I think it’s good. You have to stand proudly for the national anthem,” Trump commented on the new policy made by the NFL.
