Marcedes Lewis signs a deal with Green Bay Packers

The veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis will join the Green Bay Packers after being a part of Jacksonville Jaguars for a lengthy run. On Thursday, Lewis posted an image on his Instagram handle where he is seen signing a deal with the Packers. The Packers are yet to announce the move.

Lewis will join Jimmy Graham in Packers as strong blocking tight end, his fellow free agent acquisition and the move marks the second straight offseason where the team has signed many tight ends. Jimmy has signed a three year deal with the Packers at the start of free agency, which is worth $30 million. Last year, the Packers signed Lance Kendrick and Martellus Bennett back to back in free agency.

Kendrick played for 16 games and caught just 18 passes for 203 years and a touchdown while Bennett stayed with the team for only seven games. The other returning tight end that the Packers’ have is Emanuel Byrd, who caught two passes in the 2017’s regular-season finale after he signed the deal with them off the practice squad. The Packers did not select a tight end using any of its 11 draft picks.

On March 20, the Jaguars had released Lewis in a move which saved the team a sum worth $3.5 million on the salary cap. Lewis had said at that time that he felt disrespected by the Jaguars, who waited for a week till the time free agency began to make a move.

Lewis is the third on the Jaguars’ all-time receptions and receiving yardage list, just after the receivers Keenan McCardell and Jimmy Smith. The details of Lewis’ deal with the Packers have not been disclosed yet, but it is likely that it could be a one year deal.
