It has not even been 48 hours that Jordy Nelson said goodbye to the Green Bay Packers, and now he has joined a new team.
As per James Jones, from the NFL Network, the former Packers wideout signed a two-year $15 million contract with the Oakland Raiders. The official announcement about the signing was made by the team later.
In mirror move, the Oakland is cutting ties with receiver Michael Crabtree, James Palmer from the NFL Network informed.
Nelson was earlier playing for the team that was not willing to pay him the salary-cap number of $11.5 million last season. But the Packers, on the other hand, have guaranteed the renowned wideout player $13 million of a $15 million deal.
Nelson will be replacing Crabtree, who had a bad season in Oakland in the year 2017 with 58 catches for 618 yards and eight touchdowns. Nelson had made the Pro Bowl in 2014 and had won AP Comeback Player of the Year in the year 2016 when he led the league with 14 touchdown catches a year after he missed an entire season with a right knee injury.
Nelson had four 1,000-yard seasons in Green Bay Packers, which includes 1,519 yards on 98 catches in the year 2014. In 136 games in his career, Nelson has 550 catches for 7,848 yards and 69 touchdowns. Nelson will be joining an offense led by Derek Carr. He hopes to bounce back from a down season and help Carr to get back to a high level they produced in the year 2016. Oakland’s receiver’s team also includes Seth Roberts and Codarrelle Patterson and also Griff Whalen among the others.
Nelson has built a reputation as one of the league’s most dependable receivers in Green Bay. He has also developed a great rapport with quarterback Aaron Rodgers who wrote in an Instagram post after Nelson’s release by the Packers on Tuesday: “Hard to find the right words today to express what 87 means to me.”
