Black Griffin has to lead the Detroit to a two-point victory against the visiting Memphis Grizzlies. His total 24 point and ten rebounds had made it possible for the team. With the score, Griffin becomes the first Piston to create a record a 2-points and ten rebound game in the debut match for the team. The team defeated the Grizzlies 104-102 points.
Earlier in the week, Detroit trader for Griffin. Before the match, the Piston haven’t had that much of time to work with Griffin. But the last game against the Grizzlies has proved that Detroit is a better team.
Stan Van Gundy, the coach of the winning team, stated: “We were plus-23 with him on the floor in 35 minutes, so we were fairly dominant at that time.” During a particular time, Griffin’s teammates looked uncertain, but Detroit was able to keep its control in the match without Tyreke Evans and Mike Conley.
Griffin stated that “I wanted just to come out and play hard, being very limited in my knowledge of our offense.”
With 1:49 remaining, Anthony Tolliver scored 3 points which gave the Detroit a 101-100 lead and the score remain unchanged until the final seconds. At that time, Marc Gasol tried to drive on Griffin. Unfortunately, he missed scoring. Tolliver gave Detroit a three-point lead with two free throws.
With 2 seconds left, Bullock made the second of two free throws, and that helped the team lead by 104-102.
However, the stadium didn’t appear full. For several years, the Piston have struggled with attendance. But the atmosphere was hot, especially during end time of the match. Griffin was the first Detroit who received a big hand from the crowd. Drummond had 14 points and 15 rebounds, but that was not enough for the game.
