Veteran sharpshooter Malik Beasley was in serious talks with the Detroit Pistons to sign a three-year/$42 million deal in free agency this offseason, yet that is now being put on hold. Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, “the U.S. District Attorney’s office is investigating Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley on allegations of gambling related to NBA games and prop bets.”

In view of these allegations, a video has since gone viral, from Beasley’s playing days as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves, that shows him allegedly concerned about the spread of a game vs. the Clippers (February 10, 2021).

With five seconds left, and the game already over (nine-point differential), Beasley takes the ball and sprints up the court to make the final score 119-112 right before the buzzer.

In what may be a coincidence, the spread for this game happened to be +8.5.

One user on X wrote, “Malik Beasley literally covered the spread on this play, look at the stress on his face.”

To note, Beasley scored seven out of his 21 points in the last minute of this game.

And also the next day, he was sentenced to jail for pointing a rifle at a family member, that stemmed from a September 2020 incident.

Now fans are starting to believe the allegations, as Beasley even follows some sports betting accounts on Instagram.

In view of past NBA gambling investigations, former Raptors player Jontay Porter already pleaded guilty for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, as he admitted to purposefully manipulating his performance to go over/under on certain prop bets. This resulted in a lifetime ban from the NBA, and some are concerned that Beasley (if convicted) could be facing a similar punishment.

Even Beasley’s last play of the 2024-25 season is being called into question, as he dropped the most important pass in the last seconds of the game vs. the Knicks.

Not to mention, old interviews now seem suspicious, as following Beasley’s last postgame interview in 2024, he summed up the season with the Bucks by using interesting rhetoric, “I bet on myself,” and “I bet that we would win.”

And now the timing of this latest investigation could not have been worse, as Beasley is coming off one of his best seasons in a contract year. The 36-year-old vet scored 16.3 points (41.6% 3-PT) and finished the season with franchise-record 319 three-pointers, which was one away from the NBA season-record (Anthony Edwards- 320).
