Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports has recently shed light on the anticipated boxing match between John Rocker and Patrick Mahomes Sr., revealing that plans for the event have taken a turn for the worse.
In an interview with TMZ Sports, Portnoy confirmed that the showdown between the father of the Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback and the former Atlanta Braves pitcher, initially slated for April, has been officially scrapped.
“That fight ain’t gonna happen,” Portnoy stated emphatically.
He explained that the Mahomes family put a stop to the event, particularly Patrick Mahomes Jr., who reportedly questioned, “Why the hell is my dad fighting John Rocker in Rough N’ Rowdy?” It seems that the intervention from both the quarterback and his family was decisive in halting the match.
Previously, on “The Unnamed Show,” Portnoy hinted that the cancellation also stemmed from interference by Brittany Mahomes and the Mahomes’ agent.
“Mahomes’ agent, the football player, and Brittany — from what I am told — intervened and were like, ‘There’s no way this fight’s happening. We’re going to cut this guy off if he does it,’” Portnoy relayed.
“They came to us … they hated each other and wanted to fight,” he added, noting that the concept of the fight originated with Rocker and Mahomes Sr. themselves.
Patrick Mahomes Sr. stirred some drama after a video capture surfaced showing him in a confrontation with John Rocker on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. However, there are additional complications at play; Mahomes Sr. is currently on probation due to a third DWI, which legally restricts him from engaging in any potentially confrontational activities like a boxing match.
Rocker’s Remarks on Brittany Mahomes Following Fight Cancellation
The buzz between John Rocker and Patrick Mahomes Sr. escalated back in February when an altercation between the two gained traction online, leading many to believe it was part of a promotional stunt for a boxing match.
However, with Brittany Mahomes stepping in, those plans were quickly derailed.
Rocker expressed his displeasure regarding the abrupt changes, as he had already committed to the fight. Venting his frustration, he took to social media to call out Brittany.
“Instead of fighting today, he backed out like a little bitch because his son and his loser wife decided it’d be a bad look to the family name for him to get in the ring,” he remarked.
Additionally, Rocker faced backlash over the derogatory language he used in this tirade, particularly regarding Brittany Mahomes, following the sudden cancellation of the fight.
