Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes appears less than enthusiastic about the prospect of adding an Olympic gold medal to his accolades.

Flag football is set to make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, California. Recently, the NFL voted to permit NFL players to try out for flag football for these upcoming Olympics.

As fans and sports analysts begin to imagine their ideal rosters for Team USA’s flag football squad, Patrick Mahomes’ name is undoubtedly at the forefront, given his reputation as a top-tier quarterback.

However, Mahomes has expressed he will not pursue a spot on the flag football team, as highlighted by Henry McKenna from Fox Sports.

“I’ll probably leave that to the younger guys,” Mahomes stated. “I’ll be a little older by the time that comes around.”

When the 2028 Summer Olympics take place, Mahomes will be nearing his 33rd birthday. Generally, professional athletes tend to experience a decline in performance after hitting their 30s, which raises questions about the viability of established dual-threat QBs like him, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Kyler Murray as choices for Team USA during that time.

While flag football carries a lower risk of injury compared to traditional football, many players might still opt out of the competition to concentrate on their preparation for the upcoming 2028 NFL season.

Patrick Mahomes & Chiefs Open 2025 Season vs. Chargers

The Chiefs, led by Mahomes, fell short in their quest for a historic three-peat after being defeated handily by the Philadelphia Eagles, 40-22, in Super Bowl 59. Their journey for redemption kicks off against the Los Angeles Chargers on September 5, as they face off in São Paulo, Brazil at Arena Corinthians.

Throughout his career, Mahomes has a remarkable track record against the Chargers, not experiencing a loss to them since Week 3 of the 2021 season.
