Following the Philadelphia Eagles’ impressive 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, discussions have emerged suggesting that the team might decline the traditional invitation to visit the White House. This speculation gains momentum amidst the backdrop of President Donald Trump’s re-election.
As reported by The Sun, an unnamed player indicated that “pretty much everyone” on the team has decided against attending a potential meeting with the President.
This sentiment has been echoed by some members of the Eagles’ ownership prior to the Super Bowl. One owner noted, “We focus on the game for now, but if we win the Super Bowl, we wouldn’t go to the White House.”

Megyn Kelly, a former Fox News host and long-time Eagles supporter, expressed her disappointment through social media after hearing the news. In response to a critical tweet, she remarked, “SAME. GO F YOURSELVES EAGLES,” revealing her frustration with the team’s stance.
Reports also indicate that an official invitation from the White House has not yet been issued. A White House source remarked that the claims circulating online regarding the Eagles rejecting an invitation have been labeled as “fake news.” The invitation is still pending, according to sources.

It’s worth remembering that after their Super Bowl LII win over the New England Patriots in 2018, the Eagles also declined the invitation from then-President Trump. Trump stated at the time, “The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team to be celebrated tomorrow,” highlighting the ongoing tension between the team and the White House.
Notably, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie has a history of supporting Democratic candidates, which has contributed to the rift with Trump, who commented, “They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem.”
In contrast, members of the Kansas City Chiefs have publicly shown support for President Trump. Kicker Harrison Butker has expressed his backing for Trump ahead of the 2024 election, while tight end Travis Kelce mentioned that it’s a “great honor” to perform in front of the President. The Chiefs’ franchise, including Patrick Mahomes’ family and team ownership, are known to be Trump supporters.
Interestingly, there’s a possibility that Trump may opt not to extend an invitation to the Eagles, similar to what transpired with the Golden State Warriors after their 2017 NBA Finals championship.
