Dwyane Wade was celebrated by the Miami Heat on Sunday as the franchise unveiled a statue of the Hall-of-Fame player outside the Kaseya Center.

Fans Critique Dwyane Wade Statue as ‘Atrocity’

The anticipated unveiling occurred on Sunday evening outside the Kaseya Center, amidst a star-studded gathering that included Udonis Haslem, Pat Riley, Bam Adebayo, A’ja Wilson, and Wade’s spouse, Gabrielle Union-Wade.

Reactions from fans on social media were swift, with many suggesting the statue bore little resemblance to the Heat icon.

One poster on X, previously Twitter, commented, “Man, who the hell is this??? The Miami Heat did Dwyane Wade dirty with this statue lmao.”

“This must be Dwyane Wade from Earth-29 because this does NOT look like the Dwyane Wade I know,” quipped another user.

“I immediately thought of the zombie in I Am Legend. That statue is an atrocity and a huge disrespect to a legend for allowing that to happen,” another fan shared on X.

“I don’t know who that is, but I can confidently say it is not Dwyane Wade,” another observer remarked.

The NBA Hall of Famer himself joined in on the humor during his speech at the event, expressing disbelief by saying, “I can’t believe it,” before asking, “who is that guy?”

It will be intriguing to see if any modifications are made to the statue following the criticism.

Heat Legend Celebrates Leading Up to Ceremony

The three-time champion had a weekend packed with celebrations prior to Sunday’s event. The City of Miami commemorated the 3x NBA Champion early on Friday by renaming a section of Northeast 7th Street near the Kaseya Center as Dwyane Wade Boulevard.

Later that day, he hosted a James Bond-themed party titled ‘Statues are Forever’ at Queen Miami Beach, where he celebrated his achievement with friends.
