Karl-Anthony Towns has taken center stage in the NBA with his surprising transfer to the New York Knicks for the 2024-25 season. The former Minnesota Timberwolves player recently joined the Club Shay Shay podcast, where he expressed his admiration for Kyrie Irving, labeling the Dallas Mavericks guard as an NBA legend.
The Dominican Republic basketball sensation shared that he has been following the 2016 NBA champion’s career since his youth. Both KAT and Irving hail from New Jersey, a state known for producing many prominent NBA talents, including Towns’ new teammate Jalen Brunson, his past teammate Naz Reid, and Kyrie’s current teammate Naji Marshall.
In his discussion with Shannon Sharpe, Karl-Anthony stated, “That’s my Jersey dawg. That’s my guy. You know what? I’ve known Kyrie since I was young, and I’ve seen the work he’s put into his game. I know everybody goes crazy when he’s doing these layups and these drills, but I’ve seen him doing that since he was young.”
“I’ve seen the hours he’s put in, I’ve seen the work, I’ve seen the drills. I definitely stole some of those drills so I could improve myself as a player. When you’re watching greatness, you study greatness and try to implement it into your game.”
“I’ve got nothing but praise for Kyrie. I’ve been blessed to watch him when I was young, before the NBA and before Duke. To see where he’s at now, in my eyes, he’s a legend in the game,” he further remarked.
Karl-Anthony Towns Joins Knicks From Timberwolves In Three-Team Trade
The significant three-team trade also included the Charlotte Hornets, with the Timberwolves acquiring Julius Randle and guard Donte DiVincenzo from the Knicks. On Wednesday, the four-time NBA All-Star, who was the Minnesota Timberwolves’ first selection in the 2015 NBA Draft, took to social media to share an emotional farewell message to the organization.
In addition to acquiring the three-time All-Star and DiVincenzo, the Timberwolves brought back Keita Bates-Diop and received a first-round selection. Meanwhile, the Hornets signed Charlie Brown, DaQuan Jeffries, and Duane Washington Jr., along with two second-round picks from the Knicks, who obtained the draft rights to center James Nnaji.
