It is anticipated that experienced play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico will lead the No. 1 broadcast team when the NBA returns to NBC in the fall of 2025, according to Richard Deitsch of The Athletic.
The NBA has confirmed an 11-year agreement on a new media rights deal with ESPN/ABC, Amazon Prime, and also NBC.
Furthermore, NBC Sports president Rick Cordella shared with Deitsch that another objective for the network is to have an hour-long studio show.
Cordella mentioned, “We aim to create a top-notch studio show and bring in talented individuals to focus on the game of the week in collaboration with the NBA to deliver the best matchup we can at that time of the season. We have seen great success with Sunday Football and Sunday Night Basketball seemed like a natural progression for us at NBC Sports outside of football season.”
“We have a broadcast slot open (after the NFL season). We presented the idea to the NBA, and it was well-received as it’s a straightforward concept.”

Jon Lewis of Sports Media Watch provided additional insights into NBC’s potential NBA coverage plans.
“NBC Sports’ NBA coverage under the new deal could include up to five games weekly — a Peacock Monday doubleheader, NBC’s two Tuesday night games, and the Sunday night slot — which might require a strong lineup,” Lewis stated. “It’s probable that NBC will also feature Noah Eagle, who will be the primary Olympic basketball voice this year.”
Tirico, aged 57, took over as the lead play-by-play commentator for NBC’s Sunday Night Football in 2022.
