Reports indicate that Rara Thomas, a senior wide receiver at Georgia, has been taken into custody on various family violence charges, some involving children.

Thomas is currently being held in Athens-Clarke County Jail, facing accusations of “cruelty to children-family violence,” a second-degree felony, and two misdemeanor counts of battery-family violence, according to Mark Schlabach of ESPN.

He is currently denied bail.

“This is an ongoing legal issue, and we will refrain from making any further statements,” stated Georgia athletic department spokesperson Steven Drummond when approached by ESPN.

Given the serious nature of the charges, Thomas may face suspension as this is not his first run-in with the law related to family violence since moving to Georgia from Mississippi State in 2023.

According to information shared by ESPN, Thomas was previously arrested in January 2023 by University of Georgia police for alleged false imprisonment and battery offenses. These charges involved confinement of an individual without legal authority and causing visible bodily harm.

Although the previous charges were ultimately dismissed.

During the last season, Thomas played in eight games for the Bulldogs, making 23 catches for 383 yards and scoring one touchdown before a foot injury forced him to miss three games.

Georgia is set to kick off their season on August 31 against Clemson.
