Nike recently released a new Olympics promotional ad featuring top athletes like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Victor Wembanyama, Serena Williams, and LeBron James. Surprisingly, two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant was left out of the promotion despite his status as one of the greatest NBA players.
NBA Fans Disappointed with Nike’s Omission of Durant
Kevin Durant holds the record for the highest scorer in Team USA’s men’s Olympic basketball history. With three gold medals in 2012, 2016, and 2020, along with a gold at the 2010 FIBA World Championship, his exclusion from the Nike ad has sparked backlash from NBA fans.
On social media, one fan commented, “Best Olympian being disrespected by Nike, been carrying Nike basketball shoe game since Kyrie got his deal taken away.”
Another fan questioned, “Aren’t KD sneakers the best-selling at Nike?”
A third fan defended Durant, saying, “Considering he’s one of only three people to get a lifetime Nike deal, I understand why he would feel that way.”
One more fan pointed out, “If the ad is focused on the Olympics, it doesn’t make sense to exclude the greatest men’s basketball Olympian. Secondly, KD is one of Nike’s most reliable brands that drive sales, so it’s illogical not to feature him.”
In a recent interview, Durant humorously addressed the question of who would be better in the NFL between him and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors.
