Undeniably, Nick Saban has established himself as an iconic figure in college football coaching. Nonetheless, his reputation as an advisor appears to be even more lucrative.
When considering his salary, this assertion holds true.
As reported by Will Backus from CBS Sports, Saban’s compensation in his new role as an advisor to the Alabama football team eclipses what he made as its coach. Seemingly, it’s a desirable position. Documents shared by various news sources indicate that Saban will receive an annual payment of $500,000 for his advisory services, surpassing the $305,000 base salary he was paid in 2023, his last year at the helm of the Crimson Tide.
Yet, merely looking at the base salary doesn’t paint the full financial picture.
As Backus highlights, “Saban enjoyed a previous contract enriched with bonus schemes and various supplementary payments that catapulted his compensation into the multimillion-dollar territory.”
It’s not certain if similar performance-based incentives are included in his advisory agreement. Regardless, Saban remains a figure whose financial success is deeply intertwined with his football expertise.
“In 2022, Saban agreed to a new deal with Alabama reportedly valued at $93.6 million over an eight-year period, which incorporated the aforementioned $305,000 base salary,” elaborated Backus. “The contract also encompassed a talent compensation exceeding $9 million per year. At that juncture, Saban was considered the most handsomely rewarded coach in the realm of college football.”
Saban now lends his guidance to the new head coach Joe Cox, a previous Georgia quarterback who now steers this formidable adversary team. Cox, having served as the tight ends coach for the Crimson Tide before, is no stranger to Saban’s counsel.
It appears Saban is willing to continue imparting his wisdom, provided the price is right.
