Nebraska is reportedly in the lead to recruit Ohio State transfer Kyle McCord, who entered the transfer portal after the 2023 regular season.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Nebraska has become the favorite to land McCord, with him stating on ‘College GameDay’ that “Nebraska has surged ahead as the leader there” and “That’s where McCord could end up.”

It is speculated that Nebraska would have to pay a substantial amount for McCord, as head coach Matt Rhule mentioned that a good QB transfer could cost at least $1 million.

“Make no mistake: a good quarterback in the portal costs $1 million to $1.5 million to $2 million right now,” Rhule stated. “So just so we’re on the same page, right? Let’s make sure we all understand what’s happening. There are some teams that have $6-7 million players playing for them.”

While McCord may not be considered elite, he is among the top available QBs, and many schools are vying for his recruitment. The outcome remains uncertain, but it is widely believed that he may be headed to Nebraska.
