Tom Brady is set to make a splash in another professional sport on the back of his retirement, though it won’t be as an active player.
Brady called curtains on his illustrious career as a quarterback a month ago, taking to Instagram to announce he’s leaving football for good. Having won seven Super Bowls and being involved in a few narrow misses, the former QB can walk away from the game well-satisfied, though he was keen on an eighth title in 2022.
The 45-year-old is widely regarded as the Greatest Of All Time, but you might not have known that Brady was also an excellent baseball player in high school and was even drafted by an MLB team.
The Montreal Expos, who were in the league back then, made Brady a selection in 1995 and rated him as a future All-Star. Kevin Malone, the general manager at the time, said Brady had the potential to be “one of the greatest catchers ever.”
The erstwhile QB is now set to be featured by Topps in one of their baseball card series. The company has announced that autographed versions of Brady baseball cards will go up for sale at some point in 2023 when they release their signature Bowman Draft product.
This year’s edition of Bowman Draft baseball is expected to be released near the end of the year. And you can bet the Brady autograph cards will be selling for a pretty penny once people start pulling them from packs.
Brady could have just as easily been a pro baseball player and was offered a salary in line with what a late second-round or early third-round pick would make, but opted to pursue football after he found out that there was interest in his throwing talent.
It appears he made the right decision.
