Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider saved a woman’s life by performing the Heimlich maneuver at a restaurant in Dunedin, Florida.

Per Sportsnet’s Hazel Mae, Schneider noticed that a woman a nearby table was choking and unable to breathe. The second-year manager performed the Heimlich maneuver and saved her life.

Via Keegan Matheson of MLB.com, Schneider learned the crucial life-saving maneuver in grade 6. The woman was choking on shrimp when Schneider managed to save her. The Toronto manager was awarded a free beer.

Just another example that not all heroes wear capes. This is also a reminder for everybody that it doesn’t hurt to learn the Heimlich maneuver, because you never know when it may come in handy and save someone’s life.

The 43-year-old Schneider joined the Blue Jays’ staff under new manager Charlie Montoyo in the 2019 season. But amid a sluggish month of July, the Blue Jays surprisingly let go of Montoyo and named Schneider the interim manager.

The Blue Jays’ play improved vastly under Schneider. They went 46-28 following the change and qualified for the postseason for the second time in three years. The Blue Jays were upset by the Seattle Mariners in the AL Wild Card Series, losing in a two-game sweep.
