NFL reporter Sara Walsh had a surprising discovery on Wednesday. Her husband, Matt Buschmann, a bullpen coach for the Toronto Blue Jays, briefly had possession of Aaron Judge’s significant 61st home run ball.
During a recent game, Judge hit his 61st homer, tying him with Roger Maris for the most home runs in a single season by an American League player.
A Blue Jays fan almost caught the ball, but it ended up falling into the Blue Jays’ bullpen. Thankfully, Buschmann was there to grab the ball and ensure its safety.
In a joking manner, Walsh mentioned seeking a divorce due to Buschmann’s selfless act.
Judge’s home run occurred in the seventh inning of the game, helping the Yankees lead 5-3. They went on to win 8-3, securing the series victory after clinching the AL East division title the day before.
Maris set the MLB single-season home run record in 1961, which stood for over three decades until Mark McGwire broke it with 70 homers in 1998. Bonds later set the new record with 73 homers in 2001.
This season has been a game-changer for Judge, who turned down a massive $200 million offer from the Yankees in the offseason.
With the win over the Blue Jays, the Yankees improved to 96-59, earning a first-round bye to the American League Division Series along with the AL Central Champion Houston Astros.
Sara Walsh recently shared information about Buschmann willingly returning the ball to Zack Britton, mentioning that the families of Judge and Maris have been actively involved and deserve to have possession of the ball.
