The college football community is grieving over the untimely death of a promising player.
Davenport University sadly announced the passing of EyQuan Cobb, a defensive lineman for the Panthers, in a shooting incident in Detroit on Friday night. Eyquan, aged 21, was just days away from turning 22 on August 1.
Coach Sparky McEwen expressed deep sorrow, stating, “The news of our teammate and brother EyQuan’s passing has left us heartbroken. He was a shining light, always with a smile on his face. EyQuan was a dedicated student-athlete focused on his education and success on the field. A true team player, a loyal friend, and a beloved son and brother. His absence will be deeply felt by many.”
Athletic director Paul Lowden also shared his condolences, saying, “Losing a student-athlete is always profound, but losing EyQuan Cobb to such a tragic and senseless act of violence is devastating for our football team, athletic department, and the entire DU campus. EyQuan exemplified passionate contribution both on and off the field. He embodied leadership, dedication, and hard work within our DU community. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all affected by this loss during this incredibly difficult time.”
Cobb, a graduate of Detroit Central High School, had played for the Panthers for three seasons, participating in 10 games and making eight tackles during his career.
