Caleb Williams stands out as a major player in the transfer portal seeking a new program to showcase his skills.
Williams, a highly-rated recruit who made waves for the Sooners in 2021 during his freshman year, recently revealed his decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal. While Williams mentioned that staying at Oklahoma remains a possibility, he is also exploring options with other schools.
Shortly after Williams’ entry into the portal, former Eastern Michigan quarterback Charlie Batch reached out to him on Twitter, urging him to join the program. Batch hinted at an offer from GameAbove Capital, proposing an NIL deal worth $1 million for a single year to join the Mid-American Conference team.
“Hey @CALEBcsw, have you considered Eastern Michigan, @EMUFB? If not, you SHOULD,” Batch tweeted. “GameAbove Capital is prepared to pay you ONE MILLION DOLLARS for one year! Are you ready to be an EAGLE?”
Batch, a 15-year NFL veteran, recently took on the role of Senior VP of Strategic Investments at CapStone Holdings.
Williams is fresh off an impressive freshman season, where he threw for 1,916 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Reflecting on his decision, Williams shared, “I believe we all come to college to chart our own course and prepare for the future. I came to Oklahoma with a plan in mind, but given recent events, I need to identify the best path forward for me.” He added, “By NCAA regulations, I can explore other schools and opportunities to ensure the right development for my future career by entering the portal. Staying at OU is an option as I navigate this process.”
Williams pointed to the “recent changes” at Oklahoma as a key factor influencing his choice.
Following Lincoln Riley’s departure, Oklahoma appointed former Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables as their new head coach.
