The family of Robbie Roper, a 2022 quarterback recruit, shared the heartbreaking news of his untimely death.
“Hello everyone, this is the Roper family. We are sad to inform you that Robbie has passed away,” the family expressed. “He brought immense joy to our lives and we are incredibly proud of the person he was. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. We are currently arranging his funeral and will provide details on the date, time, and location soon.”
His passing followed complications during a medical procedure, although the specific details remain unconfirmed.
Roper had garnered interest from several colleges including Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Connecticut, TCU, Michigan, North Carolina, and Massachusetts, but he had not made a commitment yet.
Roswell’s head football coach, Chris Prewett, expressed the community’s deep sorrow.
“Heartbroken doesn’t suffice to describe it. Robbie was an exceptional young man who fought until the end! Your absence will be deeply felt in so many ways!!” the coach shared on Twitter.
Robbie’s sister, Breanna Roper, honored his memory on Twitter, highlighting the impact he had on others.
“I am incredibly proud of the person he became, and I can only aspire to be half as good a teammate, leader, and individual as Robbie was,” she shared under the title “Live like 5.”
The 6-foot-4 senior excelled with 3,010 passing yards and 37 touchdowns, earning the title of Region 5-7A Offensive Player of the Year in his final season at Roswell.
