Anthony Rocco Martin, a former UFC fighter, was taken into custody over the weekend for striking a security guard in the throat. The altercation occurred when the guard confronted Martin for urinating in a hallway at a casino located on the Las Vegas Strip.
The 31-year-old athlete was charged with battery and lewd conduct in a public place, both classified as misdemeanors. The incident prompted a police response at Caesars Palace.
Security personnel intervened after witnessing Martin relieving himself in the hallway. Despite being asked to leave and show identification, Martin became increasingly agitated and made threats towards the officers.
Following warnings about potential trespassing charges, Martin was once again urged to depart the premises. Nathan Wilson, a security manager, attempted to de-escalate the situation by asking Martin to step back, but was met with a punch to the throat. Martin was then subdued and restrained on the floor.
Police reviewed security footage which captured Martin urinating and assaulting Wilson. Martin claimed he was a victim of racial profiling and protested his arrest.
Records from the Las Vegas Justice Court indicate that Martin was released on his own recognizance later that Saturday. The welterweight, standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 170 pounds, boasts a professional record of 17 wins, 6 losses, and no draws. His most recent UFC bout took place on June 6, 2020.
