Brian Kelly Making Headlines for Landing a Huge Contract With LSU

Brian Kelly is set to depart from Notre Dame to take on the role of head football coach at LSU. After 12 seasons at Notre Dame, Kelly recently achieved a milestone as the winningest coach in the school’s history with 92 victories.

LSU is poised to announce the hiring of Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly as their next head coach, according to sources. The official statement could be released as early as tomorrow.

Kelly will step into the position formerly held by Coach O and depart from the Fighting Irish for a lucrative contract with the Tigers in the south.

Brian Kelly’s move to LSU is confirmed. @PeteThamel was first to report. Reports indicate a potential annual salary in the $15 million range. Defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman likely to take over as interim coach at ND but could also be auditioning. Will this be Matt Campbell’s moment?

This decision by Kelly follows a flurry of coaching changes in college football, including Lincoln Riley’s move from Oklahoma to USC.

Notre Dame currently holds the 6th spot in the College Football Playoff ranking and remains in contention for a spot in the Playoff.

Under Kelly’s leadership, Notre Dame reached the BCS title game in 2012 and appeared in the College Football Playoff in 2018 and 2020.
