Former University of Memphis and Austin Peay football player Nigel Brannon tragically passed away after being shot and killed at an apartment complex in Oklahoma, as confirmed by the police.
Brannon was in a car reportedly involved in illegal activity that led to gunfire. The alleged shooter remained at the scene and gave conflicting statements to the officers about the incident.
Brannon sustained multiple gunshot wounds and passed away inside a car parked in the lot.
According to Oklahoma City police Sgt. Dillon Quirk, “Two individuals were in a vehicle engaging in illegal activity, which ultimately resulted in one male shooting another.”
You might recall Nigel from August 2021 when he was arrested for slicing a teammate’s neck during a dispute over a room key. He was apprehended for holding a knife to his teammate’s throat and restraining him. The teammate suffered a severe slash on the neck that required stitches.
Brannon explained to the police that he was upset over misplacing the key to his room and suspected it was in the victim’s room, according to a warrant. He was charged with aggravated assault and kidnapping.
Brannon, a three-star offensive lineman for the UofM Tigers before transferring to Austin Peay at the conclusion of his sophomore year, was 21 years old.
