Delonte West was taken into custody on October 19th by authorities who reported that he was shouting and banging on the doors of a nearby police station.
In the recently obtained body camera footage, West can be seen going on a verbal tirade, using offensive language and asserting his superiority over basketball legends such as LeBron James and Michael Jordan.
“I was better than LeBron James. I’m better than [Michael] Jordan,” West stated. “I was the best to ever play any sport. Shut up!”
Officers reported that West was in possession of two open containers of alcohol and appeared to be intoxicated. West has struggled with substance abuse problems in the past, and it seems that he may have relapsed severely despite efforts from Mavericks owner Mark Cuban to assist him.
This is undeniably a distressing situation, and we can only hope that Delonte West receives the necessary support and guidance moving forward after this incident. His upcoming court appearance is scheduled for next month.
