Oscar De La Hoya is seeking redemption.

The former champion, who hasn’t competed since 2008, recently expressed his intention to challenge Mayweather to a rematch in his upcoming fight during an interview with TMZ Sports.

“I’m willing to pay Floyd Mayweather $100 million,” De La Hoya stated. “Let’s make this happen.”

Their first encounter in 2007 ended with Mayweather securing a split decision victory in what was then the most financially successful boxing match, earning over $130 million.

Nevertheless, Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, dismissed the possibility of a rematch between De La Hoya and Mayweather during an appearance on SportsMap Radio’s “The Jake Asman Show,” stating categorically that “it will never take place.”

De La Hoya was preparing to make a comeback in a exhibition fight against MMA fighter Vitor Belfort, but had to withdraw from the event after contracting COVID-19.

Mayweather’s most recent bout was an exhibition match against the YouTube personality turned boxer Logan Paul in June.
