The tennis crowd appears to be turning against Naomi Osaka.

The defending champion, aged 23, experienced boos during her match against Leylah Fernandez at the 2021 US Open on Friday. The first incident occurred when the audience felt she was taking too long between sets on the sidelines.

Further disapproval arose when she aggressively hit her racket against the court at Arthur Ashe Stadium, causing it to bounce to the net.

During the match, Osaka damaged her racket three times without receiving a code violation.

Following the match, she expressed regret for her actions.
