Whether you’re a fan or not, Jake Paul undeniably draws a crowd for his boxing matches.
In a boxing event at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on Sunday night, the YouTube star turned boxer, Jake Paul, secured a split decision victory over former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley (77-75, 75-77, 78-74) in the main event.
Despite Woodley managing to shake Paul with a powerful right hand in the fourth round, Paul weathered the storm and ultimately outperformed Woodley in the later rounds.
Not everyone was impressed with the fight, including Nate Diaz, who was quite critical of both fighters.
Diaz commented, “These guys both suck.”
Reflecting on his performance, Paul shared, “I learned a lot tonight. First time going past four minutes. First time in an eight-round fight…I won convincingly. We’re gonna go back to the drawing board. I think I proved a lot tonight and proved a lot of people wrong.”
Following the bout, Paul and Woodley agreed to a rematch under the condition that Woodley gets an “I love Jake Paul” tattoo.
Woodley expressed his thoughts, saying, “I didn’t hit the ground like his other opponents. I walked him down and gave it back. Let’s run it back.”
In terms of punches landed, Paul outperformed Woodley with 71-52, though Woodley landed more power punches at 41-35. Paul was dominant in jabs, landing 36 compared to Woodley’s 11.
Woodley stated, “I thought I won, to be honest…My demeanor and my emotion is because I wanted to knock him out. I had a couple of big shots I landed, a couple of opportunities, and I think I had him hurt and I had him tired a couple of times and I didn’t press him. I should have pressed him a little more.”
It is highly anticipated that a rematch will take place, drawing in a large audience of fans and celebrities, much like the first match.
