An incident involving Brannon Nigel has led to his arrest.
Brannon Nigel, a football player at Austin Peay State University, was taken into custody for allegedly cutting the neck of a fellow player in a dispute over a room key. The altercation, which occurred at the University Landing Apartments, involved Nigel holding a knife to his teammate’s throat and preventing him from leaving the room.
The victim sustained a deep neck wound that required stitches during the confrontation with Nigel, who had recently transferred from Memphis. According to reports, the victim managed to escape and seek help from Clarksville Police after sustaining cuts to the neck and wrist during the struggle.
The incident was reported by the victim at 7:06 p.m., leading to Nigel’s arrest on charges of aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping. Nigel claimed that he became enraged after losing his room key and believed it was in the victim’s room.
The University has responded to the incident by suspending the arrested athlete pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

“On July 22 at about 7 p.m., in University Landing Apartments, the victim and Brannon, who are roommates, were looking for Brannon’s key in the victim’s room, the warrant said. Brannon wouldn’t allow the victim to leave. Brannon then pulled out a knife and threatened him. When he tried to get past Brannon, they fought, and the victim was cut on the neck and on the wrist.
The victim was then able to slip past Brannon and run out the door, the warrant said.
