Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams join other tennis players in expressing their doubts about competing in this year’s Tokyo Olympics. Some have raised concerns about holding the event amidst the ongoing global pandemic.

“I am unable to provide a definite answer as I am uncertain,” mentioned Nadal, who currently holds the second rank in men’s world tennis. “Given a normal circumstance, I would never contemplate missing the Olympics. It has always been a significant event for me to participate in.”

Serena Williams, worried about the logistics of traveling to Japan with her three-year-old daughter, expressed, “I have never been apart from her for twenty-four hours, which in itself answers the question…

“I haven’t really delved deeply into thoughts about Tokyo, initially scheduled for last year and now postponed to this year, while amidst the pandemic. There are so many considerations to make, alongside the grand slams. It’s quite overwhelming. I have been approaching things day by day, almost excessively, and now I need to strategize my next steps.”
