The first round of the 2021 NFL Draft took place in Cleveland on Thursday evening, with quarterbacks being in high demand as teams sought to secure key players for the upcoming season.

Trevor Lawrence, former quarterback of the Clemson Tigers, was the top overall pick of the night, chosen by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is widely regarded as one of the most promising college athletes in recent history. Following Lawrence, Zach Wilson, quarterback from Brigham Young University (BYU) Cougars, was selected by the New York Jets as the second pick of the draft.

In a surprising turn of events, the San Francisco 49ers opted for Trey Jones from the North Dakota State Bisons over Mac Jones from the Alabama Crimson Tide. Coach Kyle Shanahan explained his decision, stating that his preference for Trey Jones had been clear since the beginning of the draft process earlier in the year.

Regarding their unconventional choice, Shanahan addressed the media, saying, “If the entire NFL assumes you’re going one way and you’re not, we won’t go out of our way to correct that perception. So be it. The outcome was always unpredictable, but our decision was solely ours.”
