Despite not suffering a severe injury, Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers will be sidelined for a minimum of two weeks, a setback for the star player who had been performing exceptionally well this season and was in the running for the MVP title.
The injury occurred in the third quarter of the game against the Washington Wizards on Friday night when Embiid went down while clutching his leg. Initial concerns arose that he may have sustained a significant knee injury that could have prematurely ended his season. However, subsequent MRI results revealed no structural damage to the knee but indicated a bone bruise, necessitating a two to three-week absence from the court for Embiid.
Following his fall, Embiid was initially tended to on the court by team trainer Kevin Johnson and was later able to walk off to the locker room without assistance. Despite his absence, the 76ers secured a 127-101 victory over the Wizards.
Teammate Tobias Harris commented after the game, suggesting, “It looked like a hyper-extension. That’s what we all hope it is.” He further expressed hopes for Embiid’s swift recovery and return to full health the following day.
The Philadelphia 76ers are currently leading the NBA Eastern Conference standings.
