As Super Bowl LV approaches in less than three weeks, the NFL announced the officials who will oversee the big game in Tampa Bay on Sunday, February 7th. This year’s crew includes a significant addition.
Breaking new ground, Sarah Thomas will become the first woman to officiate in a Super Bowl, serving as the down judge.
Head referee Carl Cheffers, who officiated the memorable Super Bowl LI “28-3” game between the Patriots and Falcons, is set to lead the officiating team. He also served as an alternate referee for Super Bowl XLIX featuring the Patriots and Seahawks.
