During this holiday season, heartbreaking news emerged as University of Utah’s rising football star tragically passed away due to an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Ty Jordan, a highly talented freshman running back, lost his life early Saturday in what authorities have confirmed was an unintended shooting incident.
“Law enforcement responded to a report of a gunshot victim. He was quickly taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The authorities have indicated that the shooting was accidental.”
“There are no words to adequately convey the sorrow and pain that our team is experiencing following the tragic passing of our teammate and friend, Ty Jordan,” expressed Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham. “Ty’s spirit and infectious smile left a lasting impact on our program in the brief time he was with us. He will forever hold a special place in each of our hearts, and our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with his loved ones. To Ty, we say with utmost sincerity, we love you and may you find eternal peace.”
Jordan’s incredible talent was recognized as he was crowned the 2020 Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year and secured a spot on the All-Pac-12 second team after showcasing his skills in four games during the 2020 season.
He led the team in several categories, including carries (83), rushing yards (597), rushing touchdowns (6), and all-purpose yards (723).
