Game five of the Stanley Cup finals proved to be a nail-biter for the Dallas Stars. A crucial goal by Corey Perry 9:23 into the second overtime period sealed a 3-2 win for the Stars, forcing a sixth game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Dallas initially took the lead with a goal early in the first period, but Tampa Bay managed to equalize in the second period. The game remained tied until late in the third period when Joe Pavelski scored to level the game with only 6:45 remaining. Without Pavelski’s goal, Tampa Bay would have clinched a 2-1 victory.

The teams couldn’t break the tie in the first overtime, leading to a second overtime period. Eventually, Perry found the back of the net for the Stars, setting up another showdown between the two teams on Monday night. If needed, a potential seventh and deciding game is scheduled for early October.

Despite the Stars winning the first game of the finals, they had faced a three-game losing streak against their opponents leading up to this crucial win. However, Perry remains positive about their chances, stating, “Get one, keep going. We start building here and I think we’re starting to do something special,” to reporters.
