The Jacksonville Jaguars made a significant roster move on Monday by releasing their former top-ten running back Leonard Fournette.
Jacksonville had tried to trade Fournette before the draft, but they couldn’t find any teams willing to offer even a late-round pick for him. Head coach Doug Marrone revealed that the team struggled to find any takers, not even for a 6th-round pick.
He emphasized that the decision to release Fournette was based on on-field performance rather than any personal issues with the running back during his time with the team.
“In the end, I have to put together a team that gives us the best chance to win,” Marrone stated.
Fournette, 25, played in 15 games for the Jaguars last season, accumulating 1,152 rushing yards, 76 receptions for 522 receiving yards, and three touchdowns in total.
