Yannick Ngakoue’s trade from the Jaguars to the Vikings has been confirmed by sports reporter Adam Schefter, with the Jaguars receiving a second-round pick in 2021 and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2022 in exchange.
According to reports, the conditional fifth-round pick could potentially become a third-round pick if Ngakoue earns a Pro Bowl selection and the Vikings win the Super Bowl. If Ngakoue only makes the Pro Bowl, the pick will be a fourth-round selection.
It was also revealed that Ngakoue has agreed to lower his 2020 salary from $17.8 million, which was set under the franchise tag, to just under $13 million for the upcoming season, as reported by Albert Breer.
Breer mentioned on Twitter that the Vikings and Ngakoue worked together to adjust his franchise tender to the decreased amount. This move indicates Ngakoue’s strong desire to leave Jacksonville and emphasizes Minnesota’s plan to negotiate a long-term contract with him in 2021.
Ngakoue, who is 25 years old, had an impressive 2019 season with the Jaguars, appearing in 15 games and recording 41 tackles, eight sacks, an interception, a defensive touchdown, four forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and six passes defended.
