MLB umpire Joe West found himself in the spotlight for a different reason on Thursday, as he was involved in an incident that left him injured during a game. This time, it wasn’t due to a controversial call he made on the field.
At the beginning of the season, West was considering sitting out due to health concerns. Despite this, he chose to continue umpiring, stating, “If this game hasn’t gotten me by now, no virus is going to get me.”
Regrettably, West’s decision led to a mishap when Toronto shortstop Bo Bichette accidentally struck him on the head with his bat. The impact caused West to bleed significantly from his ear area, necessitating him to leave the field for further medical attention.
