Heartbreaking news emerged on Saturday as Fedonta “J.B.” White, a promising 4-star New Mexico basketball recruit, was shot and killed, as reported by the Albuquerque Journal.
Authorities from the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distressing call around 3:30 a.m., discovering the lifeless body of the 18-year-old White, who had succumbed to a gunshot wound.
The investigation remains ongoing, with Juan Rios from the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office stating that no arrests have been made at this time.
Standing at 6 feet 7 inches, White was a highly ranked player in the 2021 class, recognized as the No. 15 small forward and the No. 76 overall prospect in 247Sports’ Composite Rankings. He had committed to the Lobos last autumn and had recently shared intentions of graduating early this summer to join UNM for the 2020-21 season.
