NWSL revealed plans for expansion to Los Angeles in 2022, introducing the League’s 11th franchise. The league has experienced significant growth since the US’s World Cup victory last year. The team is currently referred to as Angel City, though the official name is yet to be disclosed.
The ownership group boasts a lineup of prominent figures from sports and entertainment, including former US women’s national team players Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, Joy Fawcett, Rachel Buehler, Tisha Venturini-Hoch, and Abby Wambach. Also part of the ownership are tennis icon Serena Williams and her spouse, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, along with their daughter, Alexis Olympia.
In addition to these sports personalities, actors like Natalie Portman, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Garner, Eva Longoria, and Uzo Aduba have also joined the team.
